“Getting to Yes” by Roger Fisher and William Ury is a seminal work in the field of mediation and conflict resolution. Mediators know the importance of helping clients identify their underlying needs when working through difficult decisions. Helping mediation clients voice those deeper needs creates more opportunities for peaceful resolution and forward momentum. What would happen if we applied some of these same techniques to building our practices? Can we create similar opportunities for growth? Can we get our practices to Yes!?

In this practice group, we will create a sacred space to help each participant identify their “why”—the core reason that brings them to the peacemaker’s path. The group will encourage and support one another to obtain clarity on what actions will most support each practitioner’s development and alignment with their “why”. We will also acknowledge our fears and concerns about our practices. We will use tools to navigate the emotions these fears raise, obtain good factual information, and make better practice development decisions as a result.

All along, we will be honing our mediation skills because we will be applying them to our own problem solving. And we will endeavor to voice our most authentic versions of ourselves to our clients and our colleagues, thereby building satisfying and profitable practices.

This group is open to and ideal for new and experienced mediators, collaborative professionals, and all peacemakers working with families in conflict from any professional background (mental health, legal, financial professional, and clergy). We will have periodic guest presenters, and we will cover topics such as:

  1. Identifying your “why” and bringing your core intention into focus.
  2. Learning how to recognize when an opportunity is aligned or misaligned with that core purpose.
  3. Developing self-care techniques to avoid burnout.
  4. Creating genuine work-life balance.
  5. Understanding emotional awareness and learning tools to bring that awareness into your practice.
  6. Introducing the “Claires”: identifying and developing your intuitive muscles
  7. Guided meditations, visualizations, and other consciousness practices
  8. Introduction to Internal Family Systems and the lessons offered to the peacemaking professional.

The group is limited to 12 participants and begins Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, and thereafter meets on the first Thursday of each month with a few exceptions noted with an * (see left for the complete schedule), via Zoom from 9:30-11:00am PT (12:30-2:00pm ET).
